Attic Insulation Done Right for Middle Tennessee Homes

Introduction

Full-Service Attic Work

SPRAY FOAM, CELLULOSE, AND USABLE STORAGE SPACE

I'm up in an attic right now inspecting a project we're about to start.

This one needs the full treatment. Spray foam, new insulation, plywood floors.

When we're done, this homeowner is going to have cool, usable storage space where right now there's just old fiberglass and wasted potential.

This is the kind of project I get excited about.

Taking something that's not working and turning it into something that actually helps the homeowner.

Lower energy bills. More functional space.

A home that works better from top to bottom.

Attic insulation isn't something most people think about until there's a problem. High electric bills. Hot upstairs rooms in the summer.

Maybe rodents or musty smells. But when your attic isn't insulated right, it affects the whole house.

That's why we're making attic work a full-time focus at Crawl Logic.

We've been doing these projects here and there for a few years, but now we're going all-in.

We've got the equipment, we've got the experience, and we're ready to help more Middle Tennessee homeowners get their attics right.

The Problem With Most Attics

Most attics I inspect have the same issues. Old fiberglass insulation that's been sitting there for decades, doing less and less every year. No real way to use the space for storage. And energy bills that are way higher than they should be.

Fiberglass breaks down over time. It gets compressed, it shifts around, it gets damaged by moisture or pests. What used to be decent insulation turns into a thin layer that's barely doing anything. Meanwhile, your HVAC system is working overtime trying to keep up.

And then there's the other stuff. Rodents love attics. They get in, they nest, they chew through things. You might hear them at night or notice a smell you can't quite place. A lot of homeowners don't realize what's going on up there until someone actually goes and looks.

The bottom line is this: if your attic hasn't been touched in years, it's probably costing you money and comfort every single month.

What a Full Attic Transformation Looks Like

Let me walk you through what we're doing on this project.

First, we're removing all the old fiberglass insulation. It's not doing its job anymore, and there's no point putting new material on top of something that's already failing. We pull it out, clean things up, and start fresh.

Next, we spray foam the attic. This seals everything up tight. No gaps, no air leaks, no spots where outside air can sneak in and mess with your temperature control. Spray foam is one of the best things you can do for energy efficiency.

After that, we add R49 cellulose insulation. That's a serious amount of insulation. It's going to keep the heat out in the summer and the warmth in during the winter. Your HVAC system won't have to work nearly as hard.

Finally, we lay down plywood so the homeowner can actually use this space. Right now it's just rafters and insulation. When we're done, it's going to be a clean, functional storage area. A place you can actually walk around in and keep things organized.

The end result is an attic that's cool, dry, and usable. That's what a full transformation looks like.

Why Insulation Matters for Your Energy Bills

Your attic has a huge impact on your energy bills. Most people don't realize how much.

Heat rises. In the winter, the warm air you're paying to create goes straight up. If your attic isn't insulated properly, that heat escapes through the roof. Your furnace kicks on again. And again. You're paying to heat air that's leaving your house.

In the summer, it's the opposite problem. The sun beats down on your roof all day. That heat builds up in your attic and radiates down into your living space. Your AC runs constantly trying to keep up. Your bills climb higher every month.

On this project, we're aiming to knock the homeowner's electric bill down by about $200 a month. That's real money. Over a year, that's $2,400 back in their pocket. Over five years, over ten years, it adds up fast.

Good insulation isn't just about comfort. It's about keeping more of your money where it belongs.

Why We're Going All-In on Attic Work

We've been doing attic projects at Crawl Logic for a few years now. Homeowners would ask if we could help with their attic while we were working on their crawl space, and we'd take care of it. Over time, we got really good at it.

Now we're making it official. Starting this week, attic work is a full-time focus for us.

We've got all the equipment we need. Spray foam machines. Blowers. Extractors. Attic vacuums. Everything to do the job right from start to finish.

It's a natural fit for what we already do. A lot of the same problems that show up in crawl spaces show up in attics too. Poor insulation, moisture issues, pests getting in where they shouldn't. And just like with crawl spaces, we're going to do it right. No shortcuts. No halfway jobs. The same level of care and quality we're known for.

If your attic needs attention, we're ready to help.

Signs Your Attic Might Need Attention

Not sure if your attic needs work? Here are some things to look for.

High electric bills are a big one. If your bills keep climbing and you can't figure out why, your attic might be the problem. Poor insulation makes your HVAC system work harder than it should.

Rodents are another common issue. If you hear scratching or movement up there at night, something's probably made a home in your attic. You might notice a smell too. Rodents leave droppings and debris that can create musty odors in your house.

Speaking of smells, if you've got musty or stale air in your home, it could be coming from above. Poor ventilation and old insulation can trap moisture and odors.

And if you've looked up there and seen old, thin, or damaged insulation, that's a clear sign. Fiberglass that's been sitting for 20 or 30 years isn't doing what it used to. Same goes for insulation that's been torn up by pests or shifted out of place over time.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth having someone take a look.
