We got called out to Ashland City to check a project we had completed. It started as a straightforward job - rip out another company's work and do it right. That part we were prepared for.
What we weren't prepared for was everything else we found once we got in there.

When we started talking to the homeowner, we found out she had cancer.
She had already been through it once with the company that did the original job. She had paid good money, trusted them to take care of her home, and they let her down. Now she was dealing with all of this on top of everything else going on in her life.
She was already stretched on her budget. She had planned and saved for this project. The last thing she needed was a list of additional costs for problems that should have been caught and handled the first time around.
There was never really a decision to make. You see a situation like that and you just do what's right.
What Taking Care of It Actually Looked Like
We brought in a restoration company to handle the sewage cleanup. That's not something you cut corners on. It has to be done properly or you're just covering up a health problem instead of fixing it.
We fixed the ductwork. We fixed the plumbing leak. We made sure everything was right before we called the job done.
When it was all said and done, we had taken on about five thousand dollars worth of repairs that were never part of the original quote. Work that wasn't our responsibility in any technical sense of the word.

Watch out for companies that collect a large deposit upfront and hand you off to a crew you've never met. Watch out for quotes that seem to cover everything but are light on specifics. And be cautious of anyone who isn't willing to walk you through exactly what they found and exactly what they're going to do about it.
A good crawl space company is going to show you the evidence. Photos before and after. A clear explanation of every line on the quote. And a real person you can call if something comes up down the road.
If they're not offering that, it's worth asking why.
What This Says About How We Do Business
We are not trying to be the biggest crawl space company in Nashville. That has never been the goal.
What we are trying to do is be the company that people can count on. The one that shows up, does the work right, and doesn't disappear when things get complicated. The one where you can pick up the phone and actually talk to the owner.
Staying small is a choice. It means every job gets my attention. It means when something comes up that wasn't in the original scope, I know about it and I can make a call on the spot. It means the person who inspected your crawl space is the same person who is accountable for what happens after.
That Ashland City job cost us money. There is no way around that. But that homeowner deserved to have her crawl space done right. She deserved to have someone in her corner after already being let down once. And she deserved to not have to fight for it.
