From Sales to Service: Why I Built Crawl Logic Differently

Introduction

Crawl Logic's Origin Story

HOW WE GOT STARTED AND WHY WE'RE HERE

You know what's funny about life-changing moments?

Sometimes they start with "just needing a job."

That's exactly how my crawl space story began, over ten years ago.

I took a sales position at one of America's biggest pest control companies - not looking for a career, just looking for work.

Little did I know this "just a job" would turn into a passion for quality work and eventually lead me to build Crawl Logic.

But to understand why I do things differently today, you need to know where I started.

  • A basement filled with plastic and pipes.

The Corporate Sales Days

Back then, crawl space encapsulation was the big-ticket item. Every salesperson wanted these jobs because they paid the best commissions. But they were also the hardest to sell - way tougher than regular pest control or termite work.

Instead of just following the standard sales pitch, I decided to really learn the business. I created my own proposals, built my own sales materials, and practiced until I could explain crawl space solutions in my sleep. It worked - I became the number one salesperson for crawl space work in a huge part of the United States.

I was good at selling. Really good. Won all sorts of awards and recognition. But something didn't feel right. The more I learned about crawl spaces, the more I realized there was a big gap between what we were promising customers and what they were actually getting.

  • The ceiling of a basement with a lot of pipes and insulation.

  • A basement with a lot of insulation and a light on the ceiling.

  • A basement with a lot of pipes and columns

  • An empty basement with a wooden ceiling and white walls.

The Wake-Up Call

Here's the thing about being a top salesman - you start to care about what happens after the sale.

I kept seeing jobs that didn't match what I'd promised customers.

The quality just wasn't there.

The care wasn't there.

And that really bothered me.

I had built trust with these homeowners.

They chose us because I told them we'd take care of their homes.

But the corporate system was more focused on getting to the next job than doing each one right.

That's when I knew something had to change.

Learning From The Ground Up

So six years ago, I started Crawl Logic.

But I didn't just jump into selling jobs.

Instead, I spent two full years working under houses myself.

Every day, I was down there installing vapor barriers, setting up dehumidifiers, fixing structural issues - doing the actual work.

Those two years taught me more than any sales training ever could.

When you're the one doing the work, you learn every detail that matters.

You understand why cutting corners causes problems.

You see exactly what it takes to do the job right.

  • A man is working in a basement under construction.

Building Something Different

That hands-on experience changed everything about how I run my business today.

Instead of training salespeople to push the most expensive options, I trained a crew to care about quality.

My team has been with me for years now because we share the same values - doing things right the first time.

I handle every inspection personally.

Not because I don't trust others, but because I know exactly what to look for.

When I tell you something needs fixing, it's not because I'm trying to make a sale - it's because I've been under thousands of houses and I know what works and what doesn't.

  • The ceiling of a basement with a lot of pipes and insulation.

  • A basement with a lot of insulation and a light on the ceiling.

  • A basement with a lot of pipes and columns

  • An empty basement with a wooden ceiling and white walls.

The Crawl Logic Difference Today

These days, I run the business differently than those big corporate companies.

I'm not just some random sales guy showing you videos on a laptop.

I've actually done this work - I know every step, every material, every challenge that might come up under your house.

When you work with us, you're getting:

  • Direct access to the owner (that's me)
  • Someone who's actually done the work
  • Honest assessments, not sales pitches
  • Quality control on every job
  • A team that cares about doing things right

Looking Forward

You know what gets me excited every morning?

Knowing we're bringing real quality to an industry that badly needs it.

In Middle Tennessee, there are too many companies focused on quick sales and rushed jobs.

That's not what your home deserves.

I love meeting homeowners, solving their crawl space problems, and seeing their faces when the job is done right.

After ten years in this business, I can honestly say I've mastered my craft.

Not just the sales part, not just the work part - but the whole process of taking care of people's homes the right way.

Right now, I'm writing this from Chattanooga, my hometown, where I've been spending time with my dad. He's been fighting stage 4 lung cancer for 13 months, and after a recent scare, we're thankful to see him making a recovery. Through prayer and faith, we're getting more precious time together.

You might not think much about where your crawl space company keeps their equipment and materials. But let me tell you - it matters more than you'd expect. For years, like most contractors, we were paying $300 a month for a storage unit to keep our supplies. Sounds simple enough, right? Well, not exactly.
