We're Adding Exterior Rodent Proofing to Every Encapsulation

Introduction

Going Beyond the Basics

WHY WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR WAYS TO DO BETTER

I was out in Ashland City this morning checking on a job we finished a couple months ago. The homeowner called because the humidity sensor was reading over 65 percent. We got out there in less than 48 hours, swapped out the sensor, and everything's back to normal.

But that's not what I want to talk about today.

While I was out there, I got to thinking about something we've been working on - exterior rodent proofing. We already seal up the interior on every encapsulation we do. But I want to take it a step further.

So we're testing it on a few pilot houses. Once we get it dialed in, it's going to be standard on every job. No extra charge. Just part of what you get when you work with Crawl Logic.

  • A basement filled with plastic and pipes.

Why Response Time Matters

When that sensor started reading high, the homeowner did exactly what they should have done. They called me.

That's the whole point of installing those remote sensors. You're not guessing. You're not waiting until you can smell something or see damage. You get a reading that looks off, you reach out, and we handle it.

Less than 48 hours later, we were there. Checked everything out, replaced the sensor, problem solved.

A lot of companies disappear after they finish the job. They got paid, they're gone, and if something comes up six months later, good luck getting them back out.

That's not how we operate. You call, we show up. Simple as that.

  • The ceiling of a basement with a lot of pipes and insulation.

  • A basement with a lot of insulation and a light on the ceiling.

  • A basement with a lot of pipes and columns

  • An empty basement with a wooden ceiling and white walls.

The Problem We're Solving

We've been rodent-proofing the interior of every encapsulation for years now. We seal up the crawl space vents, close off any gaps, make sure nothing's getting in from inside the foundation.

But rodents don't just show up out of nowhere. They're coming from somewhere. And usually, that somewhere is outside your house.

They find a gap under a door. A crack in the foundation. A spot where the siding doesn't quite meet the ground. Once they're near the house, they start looking for ways in. And crawl spaces are easy targets.

So we can do all the work in the world sealing up the interior. But if we're not thinking about how they're getting close to the house in the first place, we're only solving half the problem.

That's why exterior rodent proofing makes sense. Stop them before they even get to your foundation.

How We're Rolling This Out

I don't just roll out new stuff without testing it first. That's not how we do things.

I've got a few houses lined up where we're going to try different techniques. See what works. See what holds up. Make sure we're doing it right before it becomes part of every job.

Once we figure out the best approach, it's going into our standard package. You won't have to ask for it. You won't pay extra for it. It'll just be there. Interior and exterior rodent proofing, included.

That's one of the benefits of being owner-operated. I don't have to run it up the chain or wait for corporate approval. If it makes sense for the homeowner, we do it.

What You Get With Crawl Logic

So here's what you're getting when we do an encapsulation at your house.

Interior and exterior rodent proofing. Ten lights installed in your crawl space so you can actually see what's going on down there. A remote humidity sensor so you know if something's off. An AprilAire dehumidifier to keep everything dry. Your choice of vapor barrier thickness - 8 mil, 12 mil, 20 mil, or 120 mil depending on what makes sense for your situation. And a free roll of drain mat on every single job.

That's not an upsell list. That's what comes standard.

You're getting a high-end product at a mid-range price. And you're working with somebody who's going to be around when you need them.

Why We Do It This Way

I've been in this business long enough to know that most companies don't operate like this. They do the job, they move on, and they're not thinking about how to make it better next time.

That's fine for them. But it's not how I want to run Crawl Logic.

Being owner-operated means I can make decisions that actually help homeowners. I don't have to justify every change to a board or worry about profit margins at corporate. If I see a way to do better work, I do it.

That's why we keep adding things to our standard package instead of charging extra for them. It's why we answer the phone when customers call. It's why we show up in less than 48 hours when there's an issue.

We're not trying to be the biggest crawl space company in Middle Tennessee. We're trying to be the best at what we do. And that means always looking for ways to improve.

What This Means for Homeowners

If you're getting quotes for crawl space work, ask about rodent proofing. Ask what happens if something goes wrong six months after the job is done. Ask if the company is thinking about long-term protection or just trying to close the sale.

A good company will explain their process. They'll tell you what's included and why. They'll be upfront about how they handle problems after the work is finished.

If they're not willing to talk through those details, that's a red flag.

You're not just paying for an encapsulation. You're paying for peace of mind. And that only works if the company you hire is still going to be there when you need them.

This is my crawl space. Finally got it finished. You know what's funny about running a crawl space company? My own house was one of the last ones to get done. I've been so busy taking care of customers that mine kept getting pushed back. Classic case of the cobbler's kids having no shoes.

I'm in Spring Hill today, about five minutes from my house. This is a crawl space we did four years ago - spray foam encapsulation, dehumidifier, sump pump, the whole system. The homeowner called for his annual service. I'm here to clean the condensate pump, change some batteries, and make sure everything's still runn

I was in a crawl space in Nashville yesterday. About 2,400 square feet. The homeowner had already gotten a quote from one of those big three-letter companies - almost $60,000 for a soda blast and full remediation. I'm walking through the space with my camera, and I'm not seeing it. There's some fungus, sure. But nothi
